5.Chairpersons report
It has been a pleasure being the chairman of KKSC over the last 4 years – steering the club through choppy waters to plain sailing! When I say steering – that is literally what I am doing with Karen (my examiner) sitting with the dual controls waiting to put the brakes on when I get too confident!
We have grown post Covid from around 20 swimmers to almost 90 (and still kids want to join us). We are now a competitive club again with confident County and Regional swimmers, National open water representation and improving swimmers of all ages. We have raised funds for new pull buoys, floats and lane ropes and we are still a happy club. It is now time for me to step down after my 4-year tenure and pass the baton on to someone new. Thank you for all the support given to me over those years.

6. Treasurers Report.
The treasurer shared the end of year financial report for 31st August 2023. In that year the club made a profit of £4070.69 a slight increase from the previous financial year. However, £1544.87 of this was from unspent fundraising. Any potential profit was swallowed by the large increase in pool hire charges.
As at 31st August 2023, the club held £17,134.66 in its current account and £6,086.25 in its saving account. The swim fees increased by 29% due to the increase in numbers of swimmers attending the club, but pool hire costs increased by 80% due to a large per lane increase by Fusion Lifestyle and an increase in the number of lanes and sessions. Coaching fees were down due to a turnover of coaching staff, but provision will need to be made for an increase again over this financial year. There has been an increase in gala fees both incoming and outgoing because of greater participation. The club received bursary payments towards Conor’s coaching courses. The first club championships since the pandemic were held in November 2022 allowing the opportunity for fundraising through raffles and cake sales. Other fundraising included the Rotary Swimarathon, the Tesco Bag Pack and the lane rope fundraising appeal led by Conor Morgan.
7. Coaches Report
It’s hard to put into words what progress we have made in the last year. The club really has got its mojo back and is continuing to improve and expand. A few statistics for you since our AGM last year to show how much we are progressing:
We’ve run a further three sets of trials to get into the club and our next one is on Thursday 16th May.
We have increased our number of swimmers from 65 to 92 - 37 of whom actively compete outside the club including 9 masters swimmers.
On reading my report from last year our target was to add another 20 swimmers over the year but we have added 27.
We have a great connection with Quayside lessons through Sarah and Conor so recruitment is going well.
We ran the club championships again in November with far more swimmers and events. This year we will expand the events again so that we will run a full programme including the distance freestyle events and the 400 IM.
We are entering more meets now with the addition of the Exeter sprint meet in September and the Devonport Sizzler in July.
Our county qualifiers were up from 8 in 28 events in 2023 to 13 in 61 events in 2024. Medals won in 2023 none, medals won in 2024 – 8.
Regional qualifiers: 1 in one event in 2023 and 2 in 13 events in 2024. They start this weekend.
We have four qualified team managers now who have been a great help at competitions and we are actively recruiting more and will increase the team by one soon.
We still have three qualified officials but have recruited a further two – one of whom has started training.
Conor is continuing with his coaching qualifications and will soon be a level 2 coach. He certainly keeps me on my toes.
Thanks to Conor, we successfully raised funds in a very few weeks late last summer for a new set of lane ropes. And brought back a few more masters swimmers who took part in the fundraising swims.
We will continue to encourage more volunteers for poolside events and joining the committee.
Thanks to Conor for the monthly newsletter – a colourful and informative addition.
My thanks also must go to the continuing hard work of the committee, volunteers and coaches without whom we would not have such a successful club. But my especial thanks to the hard work and dedication of the swimmers – who knows how far they can go….
8. Club Constitution Review
The KKSC Club Constitution dated 28th April 2022 has been reviewed. It did not require updating and it follows the Swim England recommended template released in January 2022. It was proposed to adopt this constitution. All present voted unanimously to adopt the KKSC Club Constitution dated 28th April 2022.
